River cruises are a great way to see a lot of Europe without repacking every two days. On the Danube you can visit Budapest, Vienna and the small towns of the Wachau Valley. On the Rhine you pass castles, vineyards and old towns between Switzerland, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

One thing to check before you book: for Schengen countries like Italy, France, Spain and Greece, your passport has to be valid for at least 3 months past the day you leave the Schengen area, and it has to have been issued within the last 10 years.
